Knowing oneself on a deeper level is key to living a meaningful and fulfilling life. Many of us have strong feelings about ourselves that come out as anxious or negative thoughts, self-criticism, or self-judgment. Sometimes personal struggles get in the way of having the kind of relationships we desire. These ways of feeling and perceiving are sometimes influenced by our past experiences and can often affect our current relationships. Psychotherapy can be very useful in helping a person develop stronger, healthier, and more secure relationships with others, while also helping to feel better about ourselves. It isn’t simply an experience of “telling your problems to someone” but an active collaboration in exploring levels of a person’s experience. The goal of psychotherapy is to help a person come to know themselves on a more intimate and multidimensional level and thereby allow them to enter more fully into relationships with others.
